Fallout 76 Black Titanium: Best Locations to Farm and Mine

Approx Reading Time: 15 minutes

Black Titanium is a vital resource in Fallout 76. It’s used to craft power armor and the mods that go with it. It is especially crucial for the Excavator Power Armor that increases your mining output considerably.

The best way to get a lot of Black Titanium is to go to the Belching Betty Mine in the Ash Heap section of the map. Mine the thirteen Black Titanium veins wearing Excavator Power Armor. Smelt the ore at a Chemistry Workbench with the Super Duper perk equipped. Hop servers as many times as necessary.

In the case of black titanium, mining is the best way, in my opinion, to get a lot of it quickly. We’ll cover the specifics of how to do that at the end, but you should also know that it is not the only reasonable way to get a lot of black titanium.

There are a few ways to get black titanium, and we’re going to cover them all in this guide.

  1. Farm creatures that drop black titanium
  2. Harvest black titanium deposits at your camp or workshop
  3. Mine black titanium veins

Farm Creatures That Drop Black Titanium

There are a couple of animals that you can hunt for the Black Titanium that they drop. Those two monsters are Mole Miners and Deathclaws. Mole Miners on the surface appear as the less painful option, especially for low-level toons. That said, Deathclaws can be an option for characters in their twenties and up if you hit the right spots. I will, of course, show you those spots below.

Mole Miners

Mole Miners are aggressive human-like creatures that have mutated into their current form. They wear or are trapped in their mining suits and use many different weapons to fend off threats.

They don’t carry Black Titanium scrap per se, but their Miner Suit Scrap, when broken down, provides Black Titanium. Not every Mole Miner will drop Miner Suit Scrap every time, but Mole Miners are usually found in large enough groups to make it worth it for farming.

Black Water Mine

Blackwater Mine - Map Location
Blackwater Mine – Map Location

The Black Water Mines are a uranium mine a short distance to the east of the Whitesprings Station. It’s in the Savage Divide section of the map. This location is home to a truckload of Mole Miners.

The spawn point puts you directly in front of the main gate. You will make your way south into the compound and past several shipping containers. The entrance to the mine is at the back of the compound through a door in the hangar entrance.

Clearing out the mine of Mole Miners typically yields about twenty to thirty Black Titanium each run, and you can server hop to repeat this as many times as necessary.

The Uranium Fever event that occurs here is excellent for farming Mole Miners. Lots of other players to help and a vast supply of Mole Miners to take down.

Deathclaws

Deathclaws are arguably the scariest creatures in all of Appalachia. They’re fast, they hit hard, and they have a terrible attitude. They also carry around Black Titanium.

There are several locations that Deathclaws are guaranteed to spawn. While this list isn’t exhaustive, it does give several options for people of different levels to take part in the farming of Deathclaws.

Here’s the list itself if you know what you’re doing and only need to know where to go. We’ll go into more detail for each location below.

  • Deathclaw Island
  • Abandoned Waste Dump
  • Hopewell Cave
  • Archery Set
  • Thunder Mountain Substation TM-02

Deathclaw Island

Deathclaw Island - Map Location
Deathclaw Island – Map Location

Deathclaw Island is on the western side of the map to the northwest of Vault 76 and a short distance to the west of the Tyler County Dirt Track.

The primary inhabitants of Deathclaw Island as luck would have it are Deathclaws. You’ll find a nest on the island. That is where Deathclaw will spawn. This spot always gives a level twenty-one Deathclaw which makes this a suitable location for lower-level characters.

Abandoned Waste Dump

Abandoned Waste Dump - Map Location
Abandoned Waste Dump – Map Location

The Abandoned Waste Dump is northeast of Harper’s Ferry and north of Tanagra Town. From the spawn point, you’ll head straight through a chainlink gate where you’ll find a Yao Guai corpse and the entrance to a cavern.

Upon entering you’ll see a bunch of barrels that probably should be irradiated, but aren’t. Head straight past the barrels and into the cave area. Inside the cave, you’ll find two Deathclaws. This encounter can be a little scary for under-powered characters as there isn’t a lot of room to run around and the potential to fight two Deathclaws at once.

Hopewell Cave

Hopewell Cave - Map Location
Hopewell Cave – Map Location

Hopewell Cave is right on the road between the Sons of Dane Compound and the Pumpkin House. It’s in the northern section of the Savage Divide.

Outside the cave, there will be creatures of varying levels guarding it. I’ve found dogs, insects, mole mats, and other animals here. Once you’ve dealt with them, you can enter the cave.

Similar to other locations, there will be a nest from which the Deathclaw spawns. Be careful if you’re a stealth build. You have to get closer than I’d like to make it appear, and you never want to be close to a Deathclaw.

Archery Set

Deathclaw Spawn Near The Archery Set
Deathclaw Spawn Near The Archery Set

The Archery Set is an unmarked location northeast of White Powder Winter Sports. You can find White Power Winter Sports to the west of The Top of the World and southeast of Horizon’s Rest.

Take the spawn point and head to the northeast. The Archery Set is easy to find as it sits under an electrical tower. Once you find the tower and the archery targets turn to the south. Now work your way up the slope towards the second marker in the thumbnail.

This Deathclaw is the one marked in the Flavors of Mayhem quest. As a result, I think it is always level twenty-one when it spawns. Nice for lower-level characters.

Thunder Mountain Substation TM-02

Thunder Mountain Substation TM-02 - Map Location
Thunder Mountain Substation TM-02 – Map Location

This substation is in the heart of the Cranberry Bog just a short way north of Watoga and southwest of Quarry X3. It’s a high-level area, so make sure you come prepared.

The spawn point puts you right in front of the gate leading into the substation. The Deathclaw that inhabits this spot is usually found fighting some glowing ants.

Note that the level of this Deathclaw can vary greatly. Most often, I get a level ninety-one, but I’ve seen it as low as forty as well.

Harvest Black Titanium Deposits at Your Camp or Workshop

There are a lot of Black Titanium deposits located around Appalachia. There is also a workshop that you can claim that with black titanium. While this will not get you vast amounts of black titanium, it will keep you with a constant supply.

It takes about three minutes for the extractor to harvest one Black Titanium, but it only holds a total of ten max. So you need to check your extractor about every thirty minutes for maximum efficiency.

Black Titanium Deposit Locations

Black Titanium deposits are scattered all over Appalachia and especially in the Ash Heap section of the map, but there are other spots as well.

Black Titanium at the Gorge Junkyard Workshop

Gorge Junkyard - Map Location
Gorge Junkyard – Map Location

The Gorge Junkyard is a low-level workshop. It is a short distance to the east of Vault 76 and west of Morgantown Station. It’s also just a short walk south down the road from Wilson Brother’s Auto Repair.

Between the house and the main shed, you’ll find a Black Titanium deposit. Once you’ve cleared the area of all enemies, you’ll be able to claim the workshop and place a mineral extractor down on top of it.

The enemies you’ll encounter here are all easy to handle. You’ll find robots, ticks, mole rats, and wild mongrels. Nothing higher than level five or six. Keep in mind while they are all easily dispatched, it can be challenging to find them amongst all the trash, and they get stuck, so make sure to listen for them when you can’t seem to find that last one to claim the workshop.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Becker Farm

Black Titanium Deposit Near Becker Farm
Black Titanium Deposit Near Becker Farm

In the northwestern part of the Toxic Valley, you’ll want to head to Becker Farm. It’s a quick trip to the northwest of Grafton Station.

Starting from the Becker Farm spawn point head to the large orange and white Aerosolizer that is likely shooting crap out of it’s top. Put your back to this and head directly north about one hundred meters. You should run right over the top of a Black Titanium deposit.

I’m not generally a fan of putting my camp in the Toxic Valley, but this is a very picturesque setting. There’s some decent flat area to build, and you have a beautiful view of the valley below to the north.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Relay Tower HG-B7-09

Black Titanium Deposit Near Relay Tower HG-B7-09
Black Titanium Deposit Near Relay Tower HG-B7-09

This relay tower is in the northern part of the Ash Heap. A short walk to the southwest of the Charleston Landfill and east of Camden Park.

Take the spawn point for the relay tower and head directly west about two hundred meters, and you should be able to find the Black Titanium deposit.

It will probably be easier if you drop a map marker in the same spot I have one in the thumbnail. There aren’t any natural landmarks. It’s in an open area that slopes down to the west.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Welch

Black Titanium Deposit Near Welch
Black Titanium Deposit Near Welch

Welch is on the southwest side of the Ash Heap. Southwest of the Mount Blair Trainyard and east of Beckley. The spawn point puts you on the west side of Welch.

If you head directly west from the spawn point about one hundred meters, it should put you right on top of the Black Titanium deposit. Use the marker in the thumbnail as a reference.

The Ash Heap is dark and dreary and not my favorite place to build camps. This spot has a view of Beckley to the west and some big ugly crane to the east.

Black Titanium Deposit Near AMS Testing

Black Titanium Deposit Near AMS Testing
Black Titanium Deposit Near AMS Testing

AMS Testing is in the far southern part of the Ash Heap. It is southwest down the road from the Red Rocket Filling Station and west of Hornwright Testing Site #3.

From the AMS Testing spawn point, go directly south and maybe just a tad east. The Black Titanium deposit is eighty-three meters away. There aren’t any decent landmarks.

If you hit the fissure site, then you’ve gone too far. Because yeah, there’s a fissure site nearby. That might be a deal-breaker for some, but if you want Scorched Beasts attacking your camp all the time, this is the spot for you.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Rollins Work Camp

Black Titanium Deposit Near Rollins Work Camp
Black Titanium Deposit Near Rollins Work Camp

The Rollins Work Camp is a big crane, and some small trailers clustered together for security. It’s in the Ash Heap southwest of The Burning Mine and east of Abandoned Mine Shaft 6.

You will need to go west from the spawn point about two hundred meters. If you see some yellow dead end and caution signs, you’ve gone too far. The Black Titanium deposit is about fifteen meters back to the east from the sign cluster.

There is a water source to the south. You might be able to place your camp close enough to take advantage of it and the mineral deposit. Other than that, there are no real benefits to this location.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Hornwright Air Purifier Site #02

Black Titanium Deposit Near Hornwright Air Purifier Site #02
Black Titanium Deposit Near Hornwright Air Purifier Site #02

This air purifier site rests on the edge of the Ash Heap. It is northwest of Lewisburg and east of The Burning Mine.

The Black Titanium deposit here is likely the easiest one to find as it is twenty-two meters northwest of the spawn point. Just head across the road, and there you go. This spot is much like the other spots in the Ash Heap. Bleak, dreary, and not somewhere I would want to have to look at all the time.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Superior Sunset Farm

Black Titanium Deposit Near Superior Sunset Farm
Black Titanium Deposit Near Superior Sunset Farm

Superior Sunset Farm is in the Cranberry Bog northwest of Watoga. Southwest of the Ranger District Office and east of the Thorn.

To get to the deposit, take the spawn point and head to the northwest. Mostly north. It’ll be about one hundred twenty meters.

Now keep in mind that this is in the heart of the Cranberry Bog. High-level territory. Your camp is going to be attacked by some of the worst creatures that this game has to offer.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Ranger District Office

Black Titanium Deposit Near Ranger District Office
Black Titanium Deposit Near Ranger District Office

The Ranger District office is north of Watoga and southwest of Mac’s Farm in the Cranberry Bog section of the map. This location is very near to our last site. It is probably closer to Superior Sunset Farm than the Ranger District Office, but it is easier to find from the office.

From the spawn point at the district office, you’ll want to move directly west about two hundred meters. That heading should take you directly under the carport at the main office building. Watch out for the ghouls or Scorched that usually inhabit this building. They will be of a high level and a lousy attitude.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Delano Grange

Black Titanium Deposit Near Delano Grange
Black Titanium Deposit Near Delano Grange

The Black Titanium deposit near Delano Grange in the Mire is one of my favorite locations. Delano Grange is between Tanagra Town and Harper’s Ferry. From the thumbnail, you can see it is very close to Tangra being a short distance to the southwest.

When you spawn in at Delano Grange, the mineral deposit is just thirty meters ahead to the west. You’ve got cliffs on either side of you and a significant enough area to build an excellent camp. There is also a beautiful view from your cliff-side camp overlooking Harper’s Ferry.

Black Titanium Deposit Near Ella Ames’ Bunker

Black Titanium Deposit Near Ella Ames' Bunker
Black Titanium Deposit Near Ella Ames’ Bunker

Ella Ames’ Bunker is a notable location in the main storyline. It is northeast of Dolly Sod’s Wilderness and west of the Thunder Mountain Power Plant is the Mire section of the map.

The mineral deposit is super easy to find. From the spawn point at the bunker, head west up the vine-covered path keeping the shelter to your left. Once you reach the top, you should see the Black Titanium deposit. It is so close to the bunker that I wasn’t able to place a marker. So I had to edit that into the thumbnail so the location may not be precise in the image.

I wasn’t sure it was going to let me place a base down that close to the bunker. I verified that you could set a camp that gets the mineral deposit inside the radius. Overall it’s a lovely location. There is some flat area to work with and a pleasant environment overall.

Mine Black Titanium Veins

There are black titanium veins that can be found all over the map, but if you’re serious about getting a lot of the stuff, then you need to head to a mine. You also need to get yourself a suit of Excavator Power Armor.

That means you need to be at least level twenty-five as you can’t wear it until then.

Belching Betty Mine

Belching Betty Mine - Map Location
Belching Betty Mine – Map Location

The Belching Betty Mine is in the southern part of the map in the region called the Ash Heap. It’s southwest of Charleston and east of Camden Park.

The Fire Breathers quest line sends you here to run down to the bottom of the mine and hit a button and then try to escape. Luckily for us, we don’t have to go all the way to the bottom.

Once you enter the mine, you’ll use a terminal ahead of you to open the security door. Proceed through the firey tunnel. You’ll emerge into a more substantial area with three low-level Scorched.

In this area, there are a total of six Black Titanium veins on the right-hand wall. Proceeding forward through the tunnel on the right, keep your eyes peeled for another seven nodes. Stop when you get to the red bridge. If you stay to your right, you should find all of them pretty quickly.

If you mined all thirteen veins wearing your Excavator Power Armor, then you should have one hundred or more Black Titanium ore. When you smelt that down in a chemistry workbench with some acid, you’re looking at seventy Black Titanium scrap. If you need more, you can server hop this location and repeat the process as often as needed.

If you need acid, be sure to check out my acid guide. Much like this guide, I’ll show you lots of ways to get a lot of waste acid.

Conclusion

When I began researching different ways to get black titanium, I thought it was going to be a lot more complicated. Mining came to our rescue and is the standout of all the methods available.

Even if mining isn’t your thing, there are tons of spots that you can farm monsters to get what you need as well. Furthermore, if you’re a total pacifist, you still have the option of recovering plenty of black titanium from mineral extractors in your camp or workshop.

I hope that this guide has proven useful to you. Be sure to check out the other guides on my site.
